Triple-Double Hub Lift Challenge

By Josh Mac (
Youtube Channel: Rox31313
)

Hello Diesels!

In the long standing tradition of competition
, the gauntlet has been thrown down once again! This grip challenge is called the Triple-Double Hub and it wont take you long to figure out why!

This one is a plate hub lift, so it makes it easier on those who don’t have a griptopz or Ironmind hub and loading pin. “What’s a hub lift?” you probably are asking.

HUB LIFTING:

The act of making gravity your bitch as you maliciously rip a steel plate from the earth by the most vulnerable part of its anatomy, its hub. Grabbing a plate by it’s nipple isn’t just a sure fire way to get noticed at your big box gym by the mirror screamers (and management), it’s also a terrific way to tax the thumb and all of the fingers.

The benefits of this lift aren’t just movie star good looks and major sex appeal. Strong hands and flanges pay dividends in the kitchen when you wife barks orders at you to open jars, or giving absolutely DEVASTATING purple-nurples, or turning door knobs with violent authority or simply holding on for dear life as Sylvester Stallone dangles you from a steel wire over an open chasm. Smooth move Gabe Walker!

The challenge won’t JUST be completing the feat, but will be judged by the heaviest plate used. Think you’ve got what it takes? Alright, lets get into it!

First, the Triple:

This refers to the three elite grip feats that are performed. They are:
1. The hand to hand transfer (lifting the plate from the floor with one hand and tossing it to the other using only its hub)
2. The hub curl (curling the plate by its hub)
3. The hub clean (lifting the plate by the hub from below the KNEES to above the head)

Now, the double:
DOING IT WITH BOTH HANDS WITHOUT PUTTING THE PLATE DOWN!!!!

Kinda like this:

This just got REAL!

Rules

-Must film plate and the weight must be visible
-No tacky or spray adhesives. (Chalk is allowed)
-Plate must not touch the ground until all 6 feats are completed.
-Lifter may not allow plate to rest on any part of the body during the lift for leverage.
-Lifter is judged by weight plate used. (10, 25,35,45 or kg plates)
-Magnet weights (like platemates) can be used to increase the weight.
– The feat can be done in whatever order the lifter wants, so long as each hand performs all three lifts without putting the plate down or letting it rest on any part of the body.
-Event is NOT timed, but in the event of a tie the faster time would obviously win.
-Video submissions should have the title: “DieselCrew Triple-Double Hub lift challenge”
-Video description must contain: http://www.dieselcrew.com/grip-strength-hub-lifting-pinch-grip

*Completion of the 6 feats certifies you as a bon-a-fide BAD ASS in my book (“My book” is imaginary and its contents can’t be verified.)

Let’s get as many submissions as we can on this. I don’t care if it’s a 5# plate, this ain’t easy!

Special thanks to Jedd for allowing me to concoct this evil feat and share it here with his readers and also for motivating me to get into grip. His weekly challenges got me off my ass and into the gym to try thing I had never heard of, and also put me in touch with others like me all over the country.

Also shout out to Jason English (Youtube channel: BigJsExtremeFitness ) for the inspiration behind this challenge.

If you haven’t seen his channel yet, get on it. This guy either knows it, invented it or forgot it and he’s been hitting grip with Paul Knight down in Texas. Speaking of Texas, He’s hosting a HUGE Grip/Powerlifting/strongman/bodybuilding/figure Expo in Red Oak, TX At Brookshires starting at 9AM on April 28th 2012. Video’s, posters, t-shirts will be available for purchase and as many sick GRIP feats as your eyeballs can handle! You’ve been warned!

Good luck, Get the video’s in!!!!!!!!

Canadian National Hand Strength Challenge

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Hello DIESELS!

This holiday weekend, Labor Day Weekend, I am on a Mission to spread the word of Grip Strength.

On this Sunday Morning, I will be traveling to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to assist with the running of the Canadian National Hand Strength Challenge, which is being run in the same locale as the Canadian National Armwrestling Championships.

In many chats, David Horne has told me that he always thought arm wrestlers would be a group that would really excel in Grip Sport. I am gearing up to see about that this weekend!

Details about the event are below, but what I am asking today is for you to take just a couple of minutes and help me promote this event via Facebook, Twitter, and any other forums and miscellaneous platforms you might use.

On top of running the challenge, I will also be speaking to the arm wrestlers about Grip Sport, how Grip Training can improve their game at the arm wrestling table.

If you could help me spread the word about this, it would be great. For Facebook and Twitter, I already have tools installed on the post in the upper right hand corner, so you can use those. For other sharing methods, you can simply copy the address of this specific post.

Thanks for the help. Check out exactly what we will be doing, below, in this excerpt sent to me by Eric Roussein, who is organizing the entire event.

Canadian National Hand Strength Challenge

On the evening of September 4th, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the inaugural Canadian National Hand Strength Challenge will be held.

This will be a medley-type event, in which competitors will try to complete as many challenges as possible among the 35 on hand.

A variety of objects will test different aspects of grip strength, which should keep things interesting for both athletes and spectators.

Participants will compete one at a time and each have six minutes to accumulate as many points as possible (each successfully completed challenge will earn 1 point).

Two separate divisions are offered: a small hands division (hands measuring 7.75″ or less from wrist to tip of middle finger), and a large hands division (hands greater than 7.75″ in length).

There are nice trophies for the top three finishers in each division. In the event of ties, gripper strap holds for time will be used to determine the winners.

The event is being held in conjunction with the Canadian National Armwrestling Championships, which should expose grip sport to many people who already have strong hands and wrists.

The action will take place following the armwrestling tournament in the ballroom of the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel in downtown Ottawa.

This competition is open to all Canadian residents. Interested participants can register at the event venue between 8 PM and 8:45 PM on the Sunday night (cost = $20). The challenge will start at 9 PM. Jedd Johnson will be driving up to officiate the event.

Event Venue:

The Albert at Bay Suite Hotel
435 Albert Street
Ottawa, Ontario

For more information, contact Eric Roussin at 613-837-1724 or [email protected]

So, if you are in the neighborhood, I hope to see you there!

The top three performers in each category will also be featured in David Horne’s Top 3 that he maintains at his World of Grip website.

All the best in your training.

Jedd

Double Blob Farmers Walk

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

During the Arnold Classic I gathered with a bunch of friends from around the nation at a little park in Columbus and we all had a few tries at some grip feats. One of the feats I was interested in trying was the Double Blob Farmer’s Walk. The record for this right now is a bit over 107 feet!

I tried five or six attempts. The one in this video clips is my third. After this one, my distance dropped off.

For those of you who may not know, the Blob is one head of a York 100-lb dumbbell. Here are some other facts about the Blob.

    * Richard Sorin named the Blob and was the first to attempt to lift it.
    * Lifting the Blob is a test of pinch grip strength.
    * It is a great feat of grip strength to lift one Blob to the full deadlift position.
    * The Blob tapers outward from the top to the widest portion.

For more Blob lifting videos, check out my YouTube Channel.

All the best in your training,

-Jedd-

Arnold Classic Write-up Part I

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

I just returned from my trip to the Arnold Classic, in Columbus, Ohio. We have been going for years and this year the trip was as great as ever. The Arnold Classic weekend is packed full of strength sport action, including strongman and powerlifting as well as many grip challenges at various expo center booths. However, this year I had my sights set on the biggest Arnold grip challenge of them all – the GNC Grip Gauntlet.
