Strongest Strength Coach at Juniata Competition
Smitty and I have participated at the NSCA’s PA Strength and Conditioning Clinic at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA for several years now.
We have done speaking presentations on Grip Strength, the Core Training, On-line Marketing, Chaos Theory and many other topics.
CHECK OUT THE REST OF THIS KILLER POST AFTER THE JUMP
This year, we will be doing a hands-on presentation that is a little bit different from the norm.
This year, we are looking for the Strongest Male and Female Strength Coaches / Personal Trainers at the clinic, and we will be holding a Strongman/Strongwoman contest to find out who will rightfully gain the title.
To find out who is the strongest coach / trainer at the clinic, we will hold three classic strongman events.
The events will be keg press for reps, Farmer’s Hold for Time, and Keg Walk for Laps.
Here are rules for each event.
Keg Press for Reps
A water keg will be used. The weight will be 35 to 50 lbs for the women and 75 to 100 lbs for the men. It must be cleaned to the shoulder and pressed overhead for as many repetitions as possible inside a 1-minute window. A repetition is complete when the log travels from the shoulder to the overhead locked position. The log can be set down in between repetitions or multiple repetitions can be performed following the clean. Points are awarded for completed press repetitions only. Push press, jerk, wave press, etc can be used. Most reps in 1 minute wins.
Farmer’s Hold for Time
Farmer’s implements will be used. The athlete will pick up both Farmer’s Implements at the same time and hold them for as long as possible. A hook grip can not be used. Only chalk can be used – no other grip aids on the handles. Wrist wraps are okay. Longest hold for time wins.
Keg Walk
Two lines will be spray painted or otherwise marked 20 yards apart. The coach will pick up the keg in front of the body (no shouldering) and carried back and forth between the lines. The athlete must get at least one foot completely over the line before changing directions. The keg may not be set down during the 1-minute time limit, but the coach can stand and hold it in front of him or herself to catch his or her breath. Furthest distance wins.
Those are the events. We’ll have some prizes for the top finishers and we’ll also be having tons of fun.
For more information on attending the seminar, check out this link: 2010 PA NSCA Strength Clinic (< = = UPDATED LINK). It looks like there is going to be a lot of good presenters and information. Coach Smith always sets up a fantastic list of presenters and the number of CEU’s you get is a great value.
Hope to see you there!
All the best in your training,
-Jedd-
