Mike Gillette has quickly become known as an expert in Mental Toughness. These days, he helps people all over the world get over their hurdles, face their challenges, and conquer their biggest fears in order to be successful.

But what you see today in this seasoned veteran of strength training, accomplished bodyweight and gymnastic master, professional performing strongman, and steel bending artist was not just handed to him.

In truth, Mike Gillette had to battle his own demons and overcome his own struggles to arrive where he’s at today.

A rough childhood, destructive habits, and an accident that nearly took away his ability to walk were just a handful of the set-backs he had to overcome in order to become the Mike Gillette we know today.

I recently had the opportunity to talk with Mike Gillette, author of Strength Psychology, and find out more about these things in his life, as well as how he and how YOU can overcome your biggest challenges as well.

Giant 200lb Kettlebell Goblet Squats

What You’re Capable of When Your Back’s Against the Wall – 200lb Goblet Squats

Over the last year, I’ve had on loan a GIGANTIC 200lb Kettlebell from a business partner of mine.

From time to time, I would work it into my training, with the objective of hitting legit Goblet Squats with it.

Heavy Goblet Squats are AWESOME: If you haven’t done Goblet Squats in your training, they are a great alternative to Front Squats, as you get that frontal loading, but don’t have to deal with the same pressure in the wrists, as you would feel when supporting the bar in Olympic-style Front Squats.

Goblet Squats with this massive chunk of iron proved to be very very challenging, and as a result, I got frustrated and tried them less and less.

Recently, my business partner said he’d be coming to grab it and take it back to his gym, so I decided I’d better pursue Goblet Squats a few more times while I had the chance.

It’s amazing what you are capable of when your back is up against the wall.

I knew that my time with the Kettlebell was short, so it became very important to me to accomplish this goal.

So, I essentially cut out all off the negative thinking that was keeping me from succeeding with these 200lb Goblet Squats and finally just went after it.

Here’s a video series showing my most recent success with the 200lb Kettlebell Goblet Squats, which will then be followed by previous, less impressive attempts.

Obviously, once I began inverting the Kettlebell, these became quite a bit easier.

And once I got a taste of success with these, I’ve been able to improve every single time I’ve tried them.

So, here’s the BIG QUESTION: Have you been holding yourself back?

I know I was. I kept telling myself these were hard and because of that, they never got any easier.

I encourage you to take a look at your training, take a look at your thinking, and honestly ask if you’re talking yourself out of success in your lifting.

And if you are, stop doing it.

Tear down the mental barriers and make it happen.

So much of this stuff is mental. Get your head right and your lifting will follow.

Up In Your Opponents Brain Case

Very quick post today for those who compete. Doesn’t matter what at.

I saw this video earlier and could not help but think about how this Jaguar hunting this Caiman is just like training.

Are You Up in Your Opponent’s Brain Case?

Are you training so hard that word of your intensity is getting out to everyone you could potentially face?

Are you taking your training to levels that would SCARE the people you would be facing?

When you attack, or when you go up against them, will you be so fast and strong that they are left trembling in fear?

Do You Have Laser-Like Precision Focus on Your Goals

Are you able to see exactly where you will be in 1 month, 2 months, or 6 months time, like a predator stalking its prey?

Are you able to get your work in, no matter what the conditions are?

Are you able to take that next step forward, even if the situation is not optimal?

If you answered NO to any of these questions, then you have work to do.

Take things to the next level. Don’t let anything stop you.

No excuses. No worries.

When things don’t go your way, so what – take it in stride and sink your teeth in.

And when you get to the platform, or the field, or the mat, you will be ready to snap your jaws tight on the brain case or vertebral column of your adversary and carry them away to eat at your convenience.

Make It Happen.
